Official Logo
You might be curious about why is there a “1” at the end of our logo. This “1” actually has three meanings to it:
We are the very first school Constituent Body (CBd) to be set up in SMU. This was entirely student-initiated by the second batch of SMU accounting students. The interim committee was formed in December 2003, headed by Rigan Wong, following which, the first official executive committee was elected in August 2004.
We aim to be the first in everything we do
Lastly and most importantly, we aim to bring all accountancy students here together as one.
Other Variants
In 2009, a new sports version of the logo was also designed to be put on our jerseys. In the sports version, a soccerball and a rockclimbing figure were added onto the original logo. A crown was added to the soccerball as we managed to win the annual Le Basi Cup two years in a row.
Oct 2003 – ASoc was officially the first CBd to be set up!
Aug 2004 – The first management committee was officially elected by Accountancy students.
2005 – ASoc organised its very first Gala Dinner - Red 'd fusion at the Bukit Room, Singapore Island Country club in April. The very first issue of our Accentuate magazine was also published in September!
2007 – The first online edition of Online Accentuate was published.
2008 – The Events arm of ASoc organized the very first Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner for a cozy gathering to usher in the new year.
2009 – ASoc Gala Dinner underwent a revamp to be held exclusively for the graduating students. The official ASoc website was shifted to ASoc.smusa.sg and ASoc now has a facebook account! Search for SMU Accountancy or smuaccountingsociety@gmail.com and add us!

2012 - ASoc 1st overseas trip to Malaysia and ASoc inaugural yearbook

Dear friends of ASoc,
The year 2012 has now begun.
On behalf of the ASoc 8th Management Committee, we welcome you to a new and fresh academic term!
The year 2011 has been a significant year for both ASoc and the School of Accountancy (SOA). We started the year with our annual ASoc Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner, a dinner event, where both professors and students attended and celebrated the arrival of the Spring Festival with Chinese traditions together. With the incorporation of SOA's 10th year birthday, ASoc Day 2011 was a great success with attendees giving high positive reviews and even Dean Pang Yang Hoong exclaimed, "awesome". Adding up to the amazing year, SOA has achieved accreditation from AACSB International (AACSB), earning the Singapore Management University (SMU) the title of being one of the youngest universities to have earned the accreditation.
Having experienced one semester in SMU for the freshmen, I hope you have adjusted to the SMUgger culture and continue to foster great bonds with new friends through university events. In addition, for some of you who may have been involved in CSP(s), be it local or overseas, I hope you have gained from the participation and the contribution will not cease after the first immersion.
For the sophomore, I trust many students would take the opportunity to get deeply engaged in student life activities, such as organising freshmen camps, representing SMU at international levels or even founding a new interest club. Every one of such experience will invariably enhance your SMU experience, leaving behind memories of footprints that will be reminisced when you graduate. For many of you, this coming summer will mark the start of your first (if not second or more) internship in the real working world. The chance to explore an area of your interest and to have a taste of the working culture is essential to your holistic SMU experience. To also help students with information regarding the accounting or other relevant industries, the Corporate Relations team is looking at proposing valuable platforms to share the insights and exchange tips on internship opportunities amongst students.
After completing their four years journey in SMU, the seniors of graduating batch of 2011 will soon commence on their next chapter of life. Wonderful memories might be looked back upon and some may say coming to SMU had taught them many philosophies in life. However, I believe SMU's superb pedagogy has appropriately prepared you to embrace obstacles ahead in the next chapter of your life. Thus, I hereby encourage you to join the established ASoc Alumni Chapter after graduation to keep in touch with your friends and peers, as well as to contribute to the school that you were once part of.
Starting the year 2011 with our inaugural event, ASoc Goes Overseas, it gave us another great opportunity to interact with our fellow ASoc friends through fun, joy and laughter, and to start our year with great company. Although planning of the event was met with a few hurdles, the team was glad that our participants enjoyed themselves in Johor Bahru for a fruitful one-day event. It gave the ASoc 8th Management Committee additional motivation to continue shaping ASoc and to serve the student population with passion, dedication and appreciation.
As the 8th Management Committee officially stepped into the office and took over the portfolios, we have big shoes to fill in after the fantastic work contributed by the 7th Management Committee in 2011. In accordance with my election campaign slogan, JAS do it, we are looking at "bigger, better and bolder" plans to cater specifically to students' needs. As members of ASoc community, I hope you will support us as we strive to serve and represent your interest as a member. For us to serve you better, we have recently created a twitter account (https://twitter.com/smuasoc) for members to receive the latest update from ASoc. Alternatively, we would greatly appreciate receiving feedbacks via Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/smuaccountingsociety), Email (SMU Accounting Society, accsoc@sa.smu.edu.sg) or our feedback box attached on the notice board near the lift lobby of School of Accountancy Building, Level 2.
As members of ASoc, you can expect better things to come from a dedicated ASoc. Once again, thank you for the continued support and let us all look forward to great year ahead!
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Jasmine Ng
