ASoc CNY Reunion Dinner 2010
by Colin Ang
The annual School of Accountancy Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner was held on the 9th February this year, a Friday evening at the concourse. This calendar event has always been one of the most anticipated events every beginning of the year which marked the new lunar year.  It was also an important event where ASoc members from all 4 years of study came together to celebrate this joyous occasion alongside the faculty members. Even some ASoc alumni members returned back to join in the festivities. The atmosphere was one that was homely and warm-hearted.

The night was graced by Professor Pang Yang Hoong, Dean of Accountancy, who kick-started the whole event with a speech wishing everyone an auspicious and happy new year ahead. Following it was an exhilarating lion dance performance by Nanyang Technological University’s Pugilistic Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe which thrilled the crowd with their skillful antics. The lion dance is synonymous with Chinese cultural traditions and brought happiness and joy to the crowd.

Dinner commenced with the serving of a traditional dish, Yusheng, much to the delight of everyone. Students gathered in groups and emphatically tossed up the fish salad while making wishes for the year ahead. Loud cries of “Huat Ah” and “GPA 4.3” were heard as students clearly made their voices heard among the crowd. Subsequently, games which involved both the faculty and students, such as Mouth Couplets and Blind Food Tasting, were played while everyone savored the sumptuous buffet spread. Soundfoundry also put up a wonderful performance with their amazing vocal talents which definitely wowed the crowd and added even more fun and excitement to the festive celebration. More games were being played and students enthusiastically rushed forward to take part in them, obviously eager to take home the attractive prizes. The night ended in exciting fashion with the announcement of the winner of the lucky draw.

It was a successful event as everyone left with smiles and memories to take home with. We certainly look forward to next year’s Chinese New Year Dinner once again!
